1st Day Jitters

Meeting with our TPCA Students/Traveling to Quebec:

Excited. Nervous. Butterflies. Lots of packing and repacking. All the feelings you would expect as we prepare for the journey and challenge of a lifetime. After working a bit this morning, I met with all of our students at Traders Point Christian Academy to "pump them up" and describe this journey we'll be taking together. What a great time! I love seeing our students excited about "riding along" on the bike ride, as they exercise for 20 minutes/20 days and spend time reading through our faith study guide. Already, I can't wait to hear their stories and look forward to seeing them in early October. If you're interested, please join us for exercise and a walk through the faith study guide found at tpcs.org.

A couple quick notes: (1) this is the first blog I've ever done, so cut me a bit of slack as we learn how it works; and (2) a big thanks to many people who have been so supportive as we get started. First and foremost, thanks to my wife, Lori, and our children, Leah and David, for their support and patience in our planning, training and taking a significant amount of time away from home. They'll be joining us in Raleigh, NC and will be riding bikes and following in our support van through Savannah, GA. Second, thanks to my other riders (Matt East and Jim Grandy) and our adopted mothers who will be driving our support van (Julie and Oma) -- wouldn't have a chance without them. Third, thanks to folks at Eli Lilly and Company, particularly Sandy Sommers and Sharon Sullivan, for their unwavering support of this venture, during these busy work days to allow me to ride and many others with words of encouragement. Finally, thanks to those along our route, in Indianapolis, TPCA's teachers and staff and our extended family who have helped in so many ways as we get started. We're really excited to make this journey and hope you'll enjoy riding along as well.

We'll keep you posted on our progress. In the meantime, see you out on the roads! Let's roll!

Charlie

Charlie,

What a COOL idea! We are following you! We'd love to meet up with you to say "hi" in Raleigh. Will you stay overnight there Tuesday night? We can't really get away during the day right now, but would love to see you when you are exhausted during the evening. let us know if this is possible... Jon and Holly

About Me

Ride Across America: A Journey of Faith Beginning on September 14, 2008 TPCA Parent and Board Member Charlie Grandy will Ride Across America, trekking from Quebec City to Miami - an overall distance of 2,235 miles in just 20 days! This Journey of Faith is Charlie following God's call to raise awareness and support of the mission of Traders Point Christian Academy. This will also serve to encourage students, families and participants to have fun, deepen their faith and develop a greater sense of community by serving together with a common purpose, as well as develop a habit-forming healthy lifestyle for our students, families and surrounding community. Ride Across America culminates on Friday October 3, when Charlie arrives in Miami and joins TPCA via a web-cast and we celebrate this incredible Journey of Faith. The students will then hold the 2nd Annual TPCA Walk/Bike-A-Thon on the school campus as their way to showcase the student body's focus on physical activity and spiritual growth. http://www.tpcs.org/rideacrossamerica.asp
